Cuvier’s Beaked Whale
They have a short beak and a slightly bulbous melon. Most individuals habe white scars and patches. The fluke is about 1/4 of the total body lenght and the color varies from reddish-brown to dark gray.
They are found in deep waters of about 1,000 meters, where they have been seen foraging.
This species is found in all oceans around the world, except for the arctic.
Strandings indicate a movement towards warmer waters in summer. They usually stay within their home ocean.
Social system/Group size
Mostly seen in groups of 2 - 7 with only one adult male in each group.
Pollution and noise.
This species has been recorded diving at the depth of 1,900 meters.
